How Much Is the SEAI Solar PV Grant?

SEAI grants are available to all homeowners in Ireland. The amount depends on your system size. We apply for the maximum grant on your behalf.

Up to 2 kWp

Starter System

Suitable for apartments and smaller homes with limited roof space.

  • €900 flat grant for systems up to 2 kWp
  • ~6 panels on your roof
  • Ideal for apartments or small terraces
  • Annual savings approx. €500–€700
+€600
Battery Storage Add-on

Battery Storage Grant

An additional grant is available when you add a battery storage system.

  • €600 additional for battery storage
  • Store unused daytime energy for night use
  • Reduces grid dependency further

Common Questions

SEAI Solar Grant — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay the full price upfront and then get the grant back?
Yes — you pay the net cost (after grant) upfront and SEAI pays the grant directly to you afterwards. We factor the grant into your quote so you see the final net price from day one. Typically the grant is paid within 4–6 weeks of a successful SEAI inspection.
Can I get the grant if I already have solar panels?
No — the SEAI domestic solar grant is a once-off payment and cannot be claimed again if you already received it. However, if you installed solar before the grant scheme existed (pre-2018), you may qualify for a top-up system under certain conditions. Contact us to check.
What if my home is newer than 2021?
Homes built after 2021 do not qualify for the SEAI domestic solar grant as they are expected to already meet high energy efficiency standards. You can still install solar — it just won't be grant-aided. The economics still typically work out well given current electricity prices.
Is there VAT on solar panels in Ireland?
Solar panels, inverters, and related equipment are subject to 0% VAT in Ireland since May 2023. This is a significant saving and is already factored into all our quotes. Battery storage systems are also VAT-exempt since 2024.
Can I get finance for the remaining cost after the grant?
Yes — SEAI also offers a Solar Energy Loan through partnered banks (AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB) at low interest rates specifically for home energy upgrades. Monthly repayments are often lower than your current electricity bill savings, making solar effectively cash-flow positive from day one.
