EV Charging

Solar Panels + Electric Car =
Fuel Costs of Nearly Zero.

The average Irish driver spends €1,800/year on petrol. With solar and a home EV charger, you charge overnight from stored solar electricity — and that cost drops to almost nothing.

Cost Comparison

Charging at Home vs Public Charging

The difference between charging at home on solar and paying at public chargers is stark — and it compounds over years.

⚡ Public Charger
€650
per year (typical Irish driver, mixed public charging)
  • 35–65 cent per kWh at fast chargers
  • Queuing and waiting around
  • Pricing increases every year
  • No control over when or how much
☀️ Home Solar Charger
~€0
per year for typical mileage on solar + battery
  • Charge from your own solar — essentially free
  • Overnight charge while you sleep
  • Full battery every morning, every day
  • Price never changes — sun is free
The Full System

Panels. Battery. Charger. One installation.

We install the complete system in a single visit — solar panels on the roof, battery storage in the utility room, and EV charger on the wall. Everything is integrated and controlled from one app.

  • Smart charging — automatically charges the car when solar is generating
  • Battery priority — set the system to fill the house battery first, then the car
  • Off-peak top-up — uses cheap night-rate grid electricity if solar runs short
  • One app — monitor panels, battery, and car charge from a single dashboard

Questions

EV Charging — Common Questions

Do I need solar panels to install an EV charger?
No — we install standalone EV chargers too. But the savings from combining solar with an EV charger are significant. Solar panels generate electricity during the day; a battery stores it; the charger uses it at night. If you're planning to go solar at any point, installing the EV charger at the same time saves money on installation costs.
Is there a grant for home EV chargers in Ireland?
The SEAI home charger grant (€600) ended in 2023. However, EV charger installation costs have fallen significantly and the return on investment — especially when combined with solar — is very fast. We can advise on current incentives and financing options during your free survey.
How much does it cost to charge an EV from solar?
Effectively nothing for typical daily mileage. An average Irish driver does 40–50km per day, which uses roughly 8–10 kWh. A 6 kWp solar system in Ireland generates on average 16–18 kWh per day in summer and 5–7 kWh in winter. Combined with overnight battery storage, most drivers cover their daily commute for free year-round.
Will the EV charger work when the sun isn't shining?
Yes — the EV charger works from any power source: solar, battery, or grid. The smart system prioritises solar surplus and stored battery power first, then draws from the grid only if needed. You can also set it to charge during off-peak night-rate periods (typically midnight–8am) when grid electricity is cheaper.
